Beyond her renowned children’s book “Millions of Cats”, Wanda Gág’s artistic legacy continues to inspire artists and art enthusiasts internationally, and, thus, she remains a prominent figure in the global art world. Her artworks have been showcased in prestigious institutions such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the British Museum and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), reflecting her compassionate portrayal of everyday life.
Born in Minnesota to Bohemian immigrants, Wanda Gág fulfilled her artist father’s dying words — “What Father began, Wanda will have to finish” — when she reached New York in 1917, at age 24, first to pursue fashion illustration and then children’s books.
